What to do when involved in a motor vehicle accident

  1. STOP – If you are involved in an auto accident, you are required by law to stop. If you do not stop, you could be charged and subject to criminal prosecution.
  2. GET INFORMATION – Get the name, phone number, address, insurance information, driver’s license information and car make and model of other driver along with names, addresses and phone nembers for any witnesses.
  3. CALL THE POLICE – Call the police to come out and complete an accident report – no matter how “small” you think the accident might be.
  4. SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION – Should any pain arise, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Failure to seek medical attention immediately may affect the reimbursement of your claim for any injuries.
  5. CONTACT AN ATTORNEY – If you have been injured and/or have substantial property damage, you may need an attorney to help settle the matter. Do not sign anything without allowing your attorney to review it first so that he or she can inform you of any legal consequences.
